VAHÉ & LUCIE 2018 AWARDS
The Vahé & Lucie Awards are given annually to TUMO students and alumni throughout Armenia for original work in four categories: Arts, Technology, Music and Film. Over 200 submissions were judged on creativity, level of effort and technical achievement. The four juries composed of TUMO students, workshop leaders and industry professionals awarded the following 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in each category.
ARTS
1st Place
Lilit Minasyan, 20, TUMO alumna
In Lilit Minasyan’s stop-motion animation, printmaking meets visual storytelling. She presents the process of printmaking by hand, with “stakan,” the drinking glass popular throughout the Soviet Union, as its central theme. Her visuals convey the thinking and propaganda that were widespread during Soviet times.

The “Cheerland” packaging was designed for dried fruit produced in the Tavush region of Armenia. The packaging showcases the beautiful mountains in one of its villages, Koghb. The landscape was replicated as a 360-degree panorama on the packaging.
3rd Place
Marina Khachatryan, 17, TUMO student
The author’s great-grandmother, Vardush, is the main character in the photostory. The photographs show the past and present of the nearly 100-year-old woman who fought during World War II and led a difficult life.
TECHNOLOGY
1st Place
Andranik Karakhanyan, 20, TUMO student
This encryption and decryption program allows users to keep files secure. Files in various formats, such as images and texts in different languages, can be kept a secret without third-party knowledge. The program was created using AES, RJI, RC2, DES algorithms.
2nd Place
Maria Ter Minasyan, 17, TUMO student
The aim of the project was to create an actual model of the solar system. The distance between the sun, planets, and moons, were replicated almost perfectly, with a deviation of only 0.001%.
3rd Place
Mikayel Gurjian, 14, TUMO student
“Escape from Cubes” is a mobile game where the player needs to stay alive as long as they can and overcome as many challenges as possible. The game is for Android only.
MUSIC
1st Place
Grigori Balasanyan, 14, TUMO student
The music composition that won first place is called “Tulgey Woods,” which was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s novel “Alice in Wonderland.”
2nd Place
Arman Harutyunyan, 16, TUMO student
The music composition is called “The Legend of the Moon.” It was inspired by famous Armenian writer Misak Metsarents’ poems.
3rd Place (2 winners)
Lusine Mardanyan, 18, TUMO alumna
The song was inspired by visits with low-income families in Gyumri. The author wants to spread awareness about their struggles through this song.

Anna Mejlumyan, 16, TUMO student
The song is written in Persian and followed by a futuristic composition, which was inspired by the streets of Yerevan.
FILM
1st Place – Group Project by TUMO students
I, Gyumri is a film created by a group of TUMO students in a learning lab by Russian filmmakers Artem Zamashnoy and Olha Pankova. The short film captures unique places and colorful characters in Gyumri. Currently, the complete film is not available for viewing because it’s being screened in several film festival. In the meantime, watch the film trailer below.
2nd Place
Alik Shahinyan, 20, TUMO alumnus
Mr. Caveman is an animated film created with the program OpenToonz. It’s about a caveman’s unfortunate attempt to kill a dinosaur for food.
3rd Place
Karine Aslanyan, 18, TUMO student
The film tells the story of an auto mechanic. It follows him throughout his working day, from early morning to late at night; capturing his work, conversations, and rest. The 8-minute film reveals his character little by little.
