Nonfiction Writing Lab
The great American writer Mark Twain claimed, “Truth is stranger than fiction, because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn’t.”
Along with Nonfiction Writing MFA candidate at Columbia University Rachel Rueckert you will write the truth about your life and the world around you and try to understand what is special about the genre of creative nonfiction. During the lab you will gain experience on free writing, prompt writing and read works by celebrated nonfiction writers.
Also you will discover the various forms that nonfiction can take through in-class readings and discussion, try your hand at writing various genres of nonfiction, including but not limited to: memoir, travel writing, food writing, various personal essays. By the end of the class you will have an essay based on in-class assignments and present it on an formal celebration.
